WHAT IS YOGA THERAPY? Yoga is a therapeutic

Yoga Therapy is the process of empowering
individuals to progress toward improved health and well-being through the application of the philosophy and practice of yoga. -International Association of Yoga Therapists

The health benefits of yoga as part of a holistic wellness
plan are widely recognized. In particular, yoga therapy is the application of the ancient science of yoga to enhance health
and wellness at all levels of the person: physical, psychological, and spiritual. My ultimate goal as a yoga therapist goes
beyond the simple absence of symptoms; it is to create within each individual an awakening and realization of their essential
nature. Yoga therapy will support you through the journey of personal transformation, including health challenges and other
life transitions. Yoga Therapy takes a multi-dimensional approach to achieving optimal health and draws on all aspects
of yoga, including asana (yoga poses), pranayama (breath awareness), mudra (hand positions), mantra (sound), meditation, and
various relaxation techniques. All techniques are modified as necessary and offered in a gentle and compassionate atmosphere
to meet the unique needs of each individual. In the context of yoga therapy, these techniques are vehicles for
self-knowledge and integration of the whole person. I recognize that the healing journey is unique to each individual
and so select and modify all practices appropriately for the person or group depending upon age, physical condition
and ability, religion, and culture. Yoga therapy is
not a substitute for allopathic medical care. If you are injured or have an illness, you should always follow the advice of
your licensed medical professional. Is it for you?
A therapeutic approach to yoga enables people of all abilities to experience the benefits of yoga with the goal of optimal
health. It is a multi-dimensional, highly individualized, compassionate approach to yoga. Whether you wish to deal with specific
physical or emotional issues, get more in touch with your True Self, or simply learn to cope with the everyday stresses of
life, we will collaborate on a customized program to help you cultivate a healthy body, a serene mind, a blissful heart, and
a free spirit.

The initial consultaton
We will get together
at a nutually convenient time either in person or on the phone. We will discuss your background and goals, and you will
be encouraged to contribute any information that you feel may be relevant and helpful in designing a program to guide you
to optimal health. We will consider together various options for how your practice might begin to develop. Your first visit Based on our initial discussion, we will begin to explore various postures with an eye to
gaining a greater understanding of your particular body. Other yoga techniques will be sampled depending on your needs and
interests as we gain confidence in what is helpful to you. You will leave with guidance for an initial home practice and a
vision of how the sessions will continue to develop.
Subsequent visits
Your practice will continue to evolve as you gain confidence, as you learn which techniques you enjoy
and benefit from most, and as your situation changes. We will come up with a plan for a home practice based on your needs,
desires, and schedule that will guide you to your goals. Home practice is an important part of yoga therapy. If you are diligent
with a home practice your experience will be more profound, and you will see results more quickly.
Cost
Yoga
therapy is adaptable to your budget and scheduling needs, so please do not hesitate to discuss a plan with us that will
work for you. In general, it is recommended that you purchase a series of at least 3 sessions at a time and schedule
the sessions once a week. This will give us time to really explore the power of yoga for you, and it will allow you to
fully begin to integrate these techniques into your lifestyle.

We begin to find and become ourselves when we notice
how we are already found, already truly, entirely, wildly, messily, marvelously who we were born to be. - Anne Lamott
